Fall Turkey?
I'm new to Turkey hunting and was going to do it this spring. My work decided that I did not have time then. Now I want to try it this fall. Any pointers from those experienced with it? Lots of info on Spring hunts but not a lot of Fall info around. I did notice the rifle regulations stipulate Ft/lbs of force outside of the 22LR. What rifle calibers do people hunt Turkey with? My Dad might go and he does not want to buy a shotgun just for it. What is the best fall strategy and times to go out. I have done some scouting and found two really promising places. I saw turkeys and found a roost in both places. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

223 would be good, .22 works good as well. To the head is best if possible. Saves the meat. Fmj is best so it won't expand or fracture in the meat. Shooting through the body will bring feathers with it and it goes into the meat.

Fall Turkey?
I am going to try fall turkey this year with my AR and FMJ 223.
I go with a buddy down by Fort Garland, but I am looking for a place closer to Denver. If anybody knows of a Front range unit, it would certainly help a beginner. What unit are good for scouting?

Saw a lot of turkey in GMU 511 the other day while scouting.
I was told by a guy who teaches the hunter safety courses that you can't use .223 for turkey. Something to do with a minimum of .240 for big game. I told him that turkey is not big game but he said something about some grey area in the regulations where it talks about rimfire minimum and center fire minimum. Center fire min is .240 or greater and rimfire is like 100ft/lbs at 100 yards. The .22lr has only about 90 ft/lbs at 100 yards so the only rimfire you can use is .22 magnum. Maybe .22lr CCI velocitor would work? Anyone have any insight or explanation?

22lr will kill a turkey just fine. I've seen it done plenty in KS. Colorado is jacked up for Turkey because they label it a big game animal due to the numbers and they have to watch them closely.
