Hello everyone. I was wondering something... I have heard of people in CA getting magazine "kits", where the high capacity mag was basically dismembered, and sent in pieces to them, and it was all legal.......... Would that be legal here? Or are magazine parts of "high capacity" mags also illegal to buy right now?
It is legal to repair from a "repair kit". This is why the date on a magazine is worthless. However it is illegal to manufacture a new magazine from these parts. If you really want to be on the fine edge of the law you could take a Sig mag say it is broken because it will not fit into your Glock and systematically replace parts until it is a Glock mag. As has been said before they can not enforce these laws unless you say the wrong things.
I am pretty sure the "kits" were a consideration of the "not readily convertible" statement within the law. But as they did not specifically denote that and it seems the "readily convertible" aspect has been pretty well killed by interpretation and opinions it would seem a moot point.
There was a whole thread on this here somewhere with some good info. Pretty sure the law was worded to where there would be no "kits". Appears they were aware o this loophole in a certain other state and made sure we wouldn't have that same issue here.

Spyder, aren't you moving to TX soon? Why not just wait until you move in to buy a crapload of 30rd mags?
My mill won't be up and running there till almost the end of the month next month... I can use the college's mill here, now. Also, I have no clue as to who a good FFL in Perryton is, and then, since it is a pistol with high caps (4 of them), I definitely have to do the whole residency thing, which takes time to hit... It would just be a lot easier to get it here now while I'm in Colorado.Quote:

eta: In addition, I would think that if you had a full time job as well as a full time place of residence, you'd be considered a TX resident. If you own a home in CO, are you planning on keeping it for family, renting it out or selling it? If you kept it, I could see how things could get tricky. Otherwise, it seems as though if you no longer have a place of residence in CO, you are no longer a CO resident and are not subject to CO laws...
