Varmint Rifle Calibers- Too Big?

I've seen a few posts and pics of guns that would not be allowed to shoot on private property at prairie dogs of land owners I know.

Sure, some of these are awesome guns.

For those of you that shoot on private property at prairie dogs do you have a caliber/size restriction by the land owners?

I know that the best way to approach a land owner when asking permission is to state that you are only using a 22lr.... at least at first.
Most of the properties I shoot don't like anything over .223 for p-dogs and some only let you shoot 22lr.
I have some that let me take a 243 for coyotes, but don't even like 22-250's for p-dogs.
I have one property that I hunt is over 200,000 acres and they only allow 22lr even for coyotes so property size is not the issue.

Am I the only one dealing with this caliber/power/size restrictions?

I've never had a landowner tell me my gun was too big. haha A .22-250 or a .223 with varmint bullets is safer than a 22lr in my view. For humanely taking coyotes I wouldn't use anything smaller than a 22 Hornet or .20 caliber centerfire rifle. Are they concerned about livestock or something?

I've never had a landowner even ask what I was shootin' on prairie dogs. They've asked what I was using for coyotes, but never have I had anyone tell me what I could or couldn't use.

I'd also agree that a good fragmenting bullet (such as V-Max or BK) from a .17, .20, or .22 cal. would be better choices than 22lr.

I used to shoot at a place just outside of the Windsor city limits. There was a county road along one side and an active gravel pit along another. We had to be very careful. We only shot 17hmr and always looked way beyond the target to make sure it was safe.

The other two spots I shoot, out near Sterling, we shoot pretty much shoot any caliber.

When I invite folks out I never ask what they are bringing. I let them know what range we will be shooting and they chose for themself. I also have additional access to 1,500 acres down the road from my place and they have never stated anything about what we could or could not shoot. We simply take what we want and have fun!

Most of us landowners are just happy to have folks come out and help us get rid of the overgrown rats...the "tool" used is never the topic with the folks I talk to.

I'm good for around 100 yards with a .22, give me a PM when you want gopher guts spread around the property! I might not respond for a while if I'm out of town.

Let's just say we launch golf balls at times...and it is rather loud. Not including the tannerite we have used out there.

Give me details. Type, size, etc. and I will tell you if it is a go or no go? That would be awesome to see!
