There was a lot of fog driving from Broomfield into Boulder this AM, but it appears to be clearing up rapidly at this point, at least in my proximity.
I'm at work about 10 miles west of DIA. Still overcast but the fog is lifting.
Still waiting in DRO, no info whatsoever as to what's going on at DIA. It is United though, so it could be anything....
I work just south of DIA, fog has cleared, but if they backed people up because of it (it's been foggy all morning long) then you could be in for a long wait. Same thing happened to me coming from Vegas a couple weeks ago, a thunderstorm held be back 3+ hours.
Very foggy around there still.
yeah, it's foggy here still
I've always wondered about commercial backups into DIA itself from local arrivals.
I can see how it might back up the system nationally, bit it claims to have a Class III ILS system, which is capable of auto-guiding arriving aircraft right down to the concrete...intact. All the pilot has to do is manage the power and flap settings.
Not all airplanes are cat iii certified.
The local airports get hosed typically because ATC has less time to work them into the system for the necessary spacing and when weather moves in more spacing is required.
