Carbine vs Mid Length Gas System? I searched

I searched and it didn't work.

What are the pros & cons of these?

Is the Carbine length as reliable?

This was an issue in the past with carbines; but it has been resolved.
The closer the gas port to the chamber the more violent, higher pressure that occurs to cycle the carrier/bolt.
There was initially some issues with 10-16" carbines and reliability, that was fixed with gas port diameter holes and buffer weight.

The mid-lenth gas systems has never had problems as far as I know.


For the most part, now even the little SBR 6-10" barrels are even reliable.

What are the pros and cons?

CARBINE:
Is there more recoil form the lighter weight? Or from the short system itself? Does it run dirtier? Is it harder on parts? etc....

MID LENGTH:
Is it MUCH heavier? Slower cyclic rate? etc...

Weight isn't the issue.. there are several considerations, but the most predominant these days is sight radius. You have a longer one with a Middy. There's a bunch of discussion about this all over the errornet, but the reality is that we, as civilians will rarely be in a position to encounter the pro's and or con's of either configuration.

I personally don't have any more middies because the 2 I had were both Heavy Barreled and I wanted the weight reduction an M4 cut barrel offered. Though there were other solutions - swaping out the barrels, going with a fluted or light weight barrel, I just switched back to carbine.. and then unfortunately, they were both lost in a tragic boating accident... sad day indeed.

Sorry for your loss. I had a similar one recently. The divers said the fish were seen taking the lost firearms to an underwater cavern where they could not be recovered...all is lost[Bang]
