Breath through your toilet in a fire to avoid breathing smoke. Sounds legit to me. I might have to cut a few pieces of tubing and keep them in bathrooms.

And here I thought you were showing us how to smoke cigarettes or other items at home/work and not have anyone find out. [facepalm]
You do realize that it is probably better to just get out? Breach the vent system with fire and sucking in fatal fumes is not a good way to go out, or so I assume. That vent stack goes to the roof, where the smoke is usually at...
Was going to say I can see issues with that but it is the best of bad options if you cannot get out.
I'd rather have an escape ladder or a bailout bag. I've done bailout training before and I'd rather jump out a window than rely on a toilet.
You do that on a septic system and you are better off breathing in the smoke. [GasM]
Not an option. You will fill the vent tube with exhaled air which is not going to keep you alive long. Only way it would work is if you clear the tube of exhaled air with each breath. Not going to happen. The air column needs to be fresh air with each breath or you will quickly consume all the usuable oxygen. Learned this in scuba when discussing taking shallow breaths while using a snorkel
I was not seeing it as a hunker down and hope the fire goes out thing.
I was seeing it as house is already full of smoke, hyperventilate through this then make a dash for it with a clear head.
A reason to keep a length of old hose under the sink, why not. If you are actually gonna buy anything more smoke detectors so you have more warning is a better choice.
That looks more like something from a bizzare fetish catalog than a survival tool.
