my rifle doubled, what next?

Hi guys,

I need some help with my AR. My son and I were at the N. site yesterday, and had a good time before we were caught in the drizzle & sleet. I was packing up and trying to keep things dry while he finished the last of a mag in a bone stock Colt AR15. His last two pulls of the trigger fired two round bursts.
We were getting soaked so I didn't try the rifle myself, we packed up and called it good.
As 'cool' as he thought that was, I can't afford any problems so I need to get this fixed asap.

The rifle again, is totally stock, less than 1000 rounds through it so it really shouldn't have any worn parts. We were shooting gunshow reloads, (I can't afford to send the best downrange into a dirtbank.)
So is there any concensus on what I should look at or replace? Is it perhaps soft primers maybe? Is a trigger or hammer or ? in need of replacing? The 75 rounds or so we fired previously fired without any incident.

Any and all assistance is definitely appreciated.

I dont know what caused your trouble, but do not take that weapon out like that until it is repaired. there was a guy that had a worn out oly. a while back, and I dont recall the whole story he was charged with possession of a automatic weapon... if I have time later ill look it up but i'm sure someone will find it before I get back, it was a pretty big story.

Is it firing two rounds when u pull the trigger or one when u pull the trigger and one when you let off?

Sounds like a slamfire to me.
Had it happen to my custom AR15 when using federal primers for my reloads. I switched to CCI primers and their harder cup makes slamfires a non issue for me now. Since your ammo is gunshow reloads I would bet that is your problem. Try different ammo and all will be normal Im sure.

If, as CareyH asks, it's actually firing one when the trigger is pulled, and again when the trigger is released, the disconnector needs to be repaired or replaced.

To check for a worn disconnector, with the firearm unloaded, hold the trigger down and pull the charging handle to cock the hammer. Then, VERY slowly, let off the trigger. If the hammer falls instead of dropping off the disconnector onto the trigger sear, your disconnector is the problem.

Were you pulling forward on the forearm? Maybe a bumpfire. Did your reloads shoot alittle hot. Look at primmers for pressure signs.

Changing ammo when you have a slam fire is not the answer my advice would be to repair the gun so it does not slam fire.

I agree with the others it sounds like a worn disconnect.
