Was disgraced ex-Arapahoe County Sheriff Pat Sullivan officially a D or a R?

I don't believe that article excerpt is correct.
I was living there at the time and the "suspect" in this whole issue lived in my subdivision. Little did we know at the time.
Following this incident I talked with a deputy DA on a social basis. I also saw this on TV.
First of all, the crashing through the fence to "rescue" downed officers, the perpetrator was dead at the time he drove onto a yard and grabbed one deputy. I believe the deputy was dead.
Sullivan then rushed his Jeep Wagoneer out of the yard and hit two patrol cars.
He was a democrat.
I was glad to see him go.

Sullivan was a republican.

He was a republican.
