5 generation NYSP and Elmira PD,,worse thing ever ,
was to go to single officer patrols in cars.
No more walking the beat, knowing the neighborhood.
Having real interface with those around you.
AMEN to the Patrick Purdy's and so many more.
Powerful video. There is no doubt that this world would be in chaos without cops. The majority of them join to be the ideal the community needs and wants. The issues being brought out in the news are not against that majority. They are showing the flaws in the minority and in the policy/procedures that instruct cops in ways that divide us all. As stated above, we need to make cops more a part of the community instead of "the dog on the perimeter" so they are not perceived as the "wolf" and don't act as the "wolf". To be clear, I am not saying make them sheep either. Many of the reports are showing programs where cops are better integrated with the community, the complaints of police brutality and misconduct are greatly reduced. We need to get away from the us vs them mentality and the thin blue line. There are "wolves" in "dogs" clothing that drive the mistrust of the community. They disgrace the majority. There should be one of these videos made showing where the community actively supports cops. It happens a lot.
Thank you for posting this video. You're right; this is a very powerful message. With the media's bias, a lot of people forget that the police are a part of society, that they're people too, and that as first responders, they move TOWARD the dangers that others run from.
Been saying this for years. Once you took the cop off the beat, social interaction between LE & the general public was lost. The local store owners would give a head up , so to speak if they felt or heard something was wrong. Now those same street cops drive around with windows up unaware of what's really happening till they answer the aftermath.
Thank you for the video. Amen to the sentiments of the speaker in the video.
We stand watch and if necessary, we fight with all the tenacity and might that our bodies can muster, because to do otherwise would mean we lose, and we cannot lose. WE CANNOT LOSE THE FIGHT! We may lose some ground here and there, but we always come back with our brothers and sisters and we win. We always win - because we have to for our children, WE MUST WIN!
Some of the comments in the youtube section of the OPs video are pretty sad.
