FIL Gunbroker deal gone bad

So I was talking to my FIL yesterday at a family event and he mentioned that he got screwed on a gunbroker deal. I don't have any experience with them so figured I'd ask you guys on advice to help him out.

Long story short, dealer shipped gun, something happened at post office (they called him because it was "floating" around and wanted to know what to do with it) and it never arrived at his FFL. Dealer is saying FIL is a bad buyer and never paid (check has been cashed) and they blocked him. He told the post office to ship it as instructed on package but they had it labeled as a "damaged package".

He said GB isn't much help.

This is all a short hand story he told me over dinner. He was just tired of arguing with the shop so he chalked it up as a loss as the gun wasn't an expensive one. I assume there has to be an easy way to resolve this but he made it sound like a he said/she said type deal. Im guessing the post office is zero help and someone there probably walked off with it. But, since the receiving FFL never signed, isn't it still the responsibility of the shipping FFL?

I didnt think you could ship firearms USPS.

I've purchased most of my firearms from gun broker and have never had a problem. I do always pay with a CC though, just in case.

There was a tiny issue once. I purchased a Sig 229 and noticed it was used... Got mad called, and they pointed out the large "used" text on the add... Oops my bad :)

It may have been a different provider. He just said post office but that may have been generic.

You can ship firearms via USPS. Handguns must go FFL 01 to FFL 01.

Its a pretty vague story but it sounds like the shipping dealer should have made a claim on the USPS insurance for the firearm and refunded the purchase price. Your father in law seems either to be leaving a lot out, or not have a clue how to handle this kind of dispute. If he can prove he paid, and Gun broker is blocking him, he should show gun broker that the dealer is a liar.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. FIL is a stand up guy but is just ALWAYS busy and is tired of dealing with it. It was a small purchase so he's considering it a lesson learned but I want to help encourage him to get it fixed. Just wondering what responsibility lies on the dealer (what if the dealer didn't put insurance on it) since the receiving FFL never signed?

^^^ More details would definitely help. Curious as to the feedback rating of the seller.
Gunbroker does not take these issues lightly. Your FIL should be able to address the accusations made by the seller, and refute them with documentation from his financial institution (cancelled check, etc.), and tracking info on the package. When he is logged in, he should be able to go to the "My Gunbroker" option.

Might be a good place to start. No reason from what has been presented here for him to lie down and take the loss.

If you are comfortable doing so, perhaps you can post up the sellers ID on here, so people know to avoid him.

I'd definitely dig deeper to find out what really happened, but in the end it is his money and his problem. I personally wouldn't rest until I got my money back or what I paid for.

Yup, open a support issue. It may take a while, but they are usually pretty good.

I've encouraged him to pursue it further. Will update as it goes along. Thanks. I just think he has so much on his plate, he was just tired of arguing with the seller.
