It is an informative article. The article is from 2013. The preliminary FBI stats for the first 6 months of 2014 show a continued decrease in violent crime rates as compared to the first 6 months of 2013. It's too bad you can't get the general public aware of the trends...especially in gun-related homicides. Of course, it's too bad you can't get the general public to do a lot of things.
I don't mean to rain on the parade, but latest figures (coming from our favorite statisticians, the FBI)- not a 2013 article- show that gun violence is actually climbing higher for the first time in almost 20 years. No records yet being broken, but something tells me when 3 police officers are murdered in a single day something ain't right and the inmates are starting to gain control of the asylum. Stay safe.
Cops get killed all the time. It's what you might call an occupational hazard. Plus, I have no clue how many law enforcement officers we have throughout the country but I imagine three of them is a pretty small percentage.
Don't get me wrong, it's a tragedy and my heart goes out to their families and friends. But it's a risk they knew about and accepted going into the job.
The media has locked onto shootings, so that's what you hear about. Similar to what they've done previously with child abductions and shark attacks when there's no statistical rise in occurrence, but it sure seems like there is due to coverage.
But, but, but Australia (as posted in the other thread)...

From OP...Quote:
The average firearm homicide rate went down by about 42 percent.
So we beat Australia and didn't have to give up a Constitutionally protected right? Damn, we're awesome!!!Quote:
Gun Homicide Rate Down 49%
It's getting to the point that I have to frequently call out the fact we are a nation of 320M+ people--third biggest in the world. There are going to be shootings. There are going to be crazy people. There are going to be racists who harm others because of skin color. It's more about media messaging (hyping up mass shootings and race issues) and the general decline of values that produces the outliers we see on the news.
