Howdy, new member currently in Texas, but moving to the Denver area soon. I was researching gun laws and found this site referred to on the city-data forum. I've been trying to find out what is legal to own in and around the Denver area. I'm looking for a place to live and understand there's an assault weapons ban in Denver proper, so I figure I should take that into consideration. Anyway, I look forward to learning a lot from everyone here.

Youre going to to love the weather here and the Denver area is way less crazy than Houston. If you've enjoyed the Houston area gun shows you're going to find the Denver ones rather disappointing.
Denver itself has stricter gun rules than the rest of the state. It's a nice place to visit but I wouldn't live there. It's only a 14 mile drive from my house in the suburbs to downtown if I wanted to go there. I'm sure you know about the laws Colorado passed a couple of years ago. Magazines over 15 round capacity can't be sold or transferred and a proper background check through an FFL is required when buying r selling a firearm.
Anyhow, this forum is full of firearms enthusiast and an all around bunch of good people.

I'm certainly looking forward to the weather change vs Houston. And I've been wondering about the gun shows. I figure I'll have to get used to not have one every other weekend. As far as where to live, I assume I'll end up in one of the suburbs and not in the city of Denver. My job starts 12/07 and I can't wait to get up there and get settled. Eventually I'll be looking for decent gun shops, a gunsmith, and of course places to shoot!Quote:

Denver has one show about every two months. It's about half the size of one of the ones at George R. Brown. Maybe about the size of the ones they had in Spring, TX. I miss the ones at the Astrohall. It would take all day to get through one of those.Quote:

Important to note that this law does not prohibit you from bringing any magazines with you when you move. The law is specific that any magazine that you owned on or before July 2013 is legal, and the burden of proof is on the state to prove that you didn't own the magazine before that.
