Hello- thinking about getting an older jeep (~$5000) for a recreational vehicle. Are there limited use insurance policies available similar to collector car insurance? I know quite a few on the board have off read vehicles. Thanks

Are you thinking about having liability only, then insuring it only when you drive it? If you have other vehicles, then it should be no problem to add/remove the Jeep whenever you need. If you don't have a live agent that you know you can get ahold of and trust to do what you ask (like if you have to call 1-800 to make policy changes), then I might suggest calling a week ahead of when you want to take the ride out.
Some policies will give you a break if the vehicle is for 'recreational use' and not a daily driver.
Some companies have the ability to suspend the insurance on a car. It'll take all the coverages off except comprehensive. Then, when you want to use it, you call and activate it and pay the "active" rate for however long you have it active. Then just call to put it back asleep.
Major players in insurance are expensive for such a vehicle. I need to switch mine over to Hagerty or something similar. My father pays something silly cheap for his 40's jeep. You just can't go over like 5000 miles a year etc.

Now do understand they have many restrictions the first is that it must be in a locked garage anytime you are not out using it. I will say that the way most of the collector policies are written using it as a "Recreational Vehicle" may not fly. If it's only a $5,000 vehicle, then most likely he'll just have liability only. If he insures the vehicle on the same policy as his daily driver, then he can completely remove the coverage when he's not driving it and he won't have to worry about policy period gaps because the other vehicle/s on the policy will be insured all the time. This would probably be the most cost effective.
And I did an online quote check; denied on my vehicle. (1973 jeep) I was surprised at that. Stock, no mods, just a weekend milkshake cruiser. Kept outside, which might be a reason. O'well.Quote:
