Ouch! Are you in the evacuation zone? I heard on the radio 1000 residences were evaced. Damn scary, stay safe! As much as I love this weather we need moisture bad.
Good luck and stay alert.
I can't believe it's March and we're in Stage 1 fire restriction in Gilpin. Unless biblical rain/snow comes in April and May it's going to be a hairy summer.
Any word on the cause yet?
Not surprising with how dry it's been.
Stay safe.
-many people are making suppositions based on location of initial sightings but I've not heard anything definitive yet. Many reports that it was already seen going on around 1:30-2am this morning.
The air portion of containment has slowed considerably in the past hour so it might be largely over now.
Sunshine Fire 20 percent contained
Suggestions are that shooters started the fire. [Bang]
At least it appears that the fire is contained to the undergrowth and not a crown fire. The area will probably be nice and lush once we do get some moisture.
I'm only seeing helicopters dropping water they scoop out of Wonderland Lake at this point, the plane in the original photo posted above seems to have called it a day....or are taking a multi-hour lunch break.
Talked to someone who saw it raging at 2:00am. Boulder Canyon has been closed since this morning but heavy traffic on side canyons. No word as to cause. I doubt there is much "legal" shooting up there. I heard 1000 people have been evacuated. True?
It's going to be a long summer.
