Angry parent holds teacher hostage in California

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA/AP) — Police responded Tuesday to a barricade situation at a Riverside elementary school involving a parent, authorities said.
Castle View Elementary School in Riverside was evacuated shortly after 11 a.m. after a male parent was barricaded inside a classroom with another parent, according to police.
It’s unknown if the man is armed.
Riverside police Officer Ryan Railsback said he believes a male parent was holding a teacher or other school staffer hostage. He says it’s not known if the parent has a weapon.
The school was evacuated and the area where the barricade was occurring has been isolated.
Railsback says officers had been first called to the school for a disturbance and when they arrived, they found the parent barricaded inside a classroom.
Riverside Unified School District released a statement calling the incident “a disturbance inside of a classroom.”

Poor kids. I hope the parent gets the help it needs and doesn't hurt anyone.

A teacher would never hurt a child...

It's amazing that this story is just a cliffhanger at this point.

ETA: Police enter elementary classroom where parent was holding teacher hostage, ending hours long standoff

Ah. They have updated the link I posted. Apparently, the parent holding the 70-year-old first-grade teacher hostage for 7 hours was the father of a first-grader that goes to that school. The police lethally shot the man. Nobody's sayinng if he had a weapon yet, but I would think e had something that made them react thusly. They're also not saying if that teacher was his child's teacher.

I feel for the guy's family, and for the teacher. What an awful situation.

Hmmmm. Maybe if this teacher was armed this situation would have been over in seconds instead of hours. Maybe. Can't have that though.
