Planning to put a fish tank in. It's gonna be roughly 300 gallons. Looking at 2500-2600 lbs with water. I want it on my main floor and will be against a wall which will be perpendicular with the floor joists. Will I still need additional support? Tank is 8 ft long. 2.5 ft wide.

I would reinforce without question.
130 LBS per square foot in just water weight alone. Add more for rocks, pumps, tank etc.
Salt or fresh? Yknow you would prefer a 300Deep Dimension. Have one for sale ^_^
It's a very hard question without inspecting the actual lay out and construction under the floor. One house may be fine perpendicular but another not. I was lucky enough for the space to be right near the concrete walls and a very short span to the first steel beam. Should have been fine. As cheap as it was with easy access still did a 4x4 and 2 steel columns just to be on the safe side. (Had a engineer type person at local wood supply dealer run some rough calculations.)
