Crow day.... or I have something for the smoker next weekend.

TRIGGER WARNING.... PEOPLE EAT CHICKENS. Ahhhhh, HR training is finally starting to work.

Many of you know we have a small farm and raise chickens. We've finally gotten past trying to keep all of them so our new tradition is 'Crow Day', the day we know a chick is a rooster. They're usually pretty young 6-12 weeks so not tough (we've tried to eat 1-year-olds and they're not very good). If anyone is interested we can post on this thread or if you'd prefer a PM I'm happy to go that route too. We'll happily wait for you to come harvest a fresh dinner (you can do it here) but we don't deliver unless you're in Castle Rock (and it's showing up alive). We don't have many, probably 3 - 6 a year but we'd like to them go to good homes. These are all mix breed, combination egg/meat chickens.

We also have good laying hens that are 2 - 3 years old if you want to add to your flock and in the next couple of years... stew hens who haven't earned a retirement. We have one Buff that has hatched and raised at least 20 chicks so she's the first to earn a spot in the chicken retirement home.

Feel free to give input in my chicken thread. Always like learning from those that are more experienced.

One is ready now, no official crow but any day now. :) I'm also an advocate for having a single rooster in the flock. A good rooster really does earn his keep.
