Apparently it's a quasi-real thing, though, in that you can enter for a chance to win a limited edition of the scent of space (The company describes the smell as "featuring a deep metallic base" with a clean, sterile feel "balanced by a subtle yet seductive fiery undertone that burns off like vapor in the atmosphere.").

There's a video I saw on the YouTube by a Canadian astronaut answering the question of what space smells like. As I recall, it smelled like a burned steak. I wouldn't want to smell like that on purpose.
ETA: Loved the 'white noise' from the Cobra.
That'd be Chris Hadfield.
For my money, he's the best public face for science education going, way better than Neill DeGrasse Tyson or Bill Nye.
A lot of his videos shot on the ISS are worth watching.
