I'm an iPhone guy. The girly has a Galaxy 9.
Starting mid August the Galaxy starts using mega cell usage. We are talking a gig a night in updates. All background is turned off. Verizon is useless. Messages seems to be using lots of data.
We are on a 4g plan and don't max that. Half way through, we are over 6g.
Ideas?

Check to see if you can find the app that's using the network bandwidth (may have foreground permissions)? Factory reset the phone and recover from backup?

My wife has been saying the same sort of thing about her galaxy 9 always updating I switched a couple years ago to an lg v30 and couldn't be happier (my company phone is an iphone and I personally hate it haha) for what its worth I have verizon my wife has T-mobile.
This suggestion doesn't solve the problem but may help with data usage... check to see that the phone uses WiFi for updates when available. I have an S10+ and it seems something is always updating. But I'm almost half way thru my month and I've only used 2% of my data allotment.
We turned on WiFi updates. Messages seems to use a lot of data. May have fixed the problem with last night’s round of “fixes”.
