It's amazing how quickly a couple of well-placed nuclear weapons will change your attitude about fighting a war.

Side historical note: U.S. Firebombing advanced to such a point just prior to the nukes that surrendering was already being contemplated. (firebombing killed way, way more than the nukes and destroyed 5 major cities). Tokyo was so bad that in many areas, the few people that made it to the canals also died, as the canals started to boil from the heat - and that one raid killed more than Hiroshima or Nagasaki AFAIK.
I'd rather be nuked, I think. (for people who decry the ethics...)
Much of the destruction caused by Fat Man and Little Boy was from the fire storm that followed. When you build things out of wood and paper, that can happen.
