Winchester 1873 in 38-40
For your viewing pleasure, Along with the colt Dragoon, this 1873 came home with me from my wife?s grandfather?s estate. This one was a lot easier to identify, but the Caliber wasn?t obvious without just a bit of polishing. The action works smoothly, but the tip of the lever that goes under the latch appears bent/broken and the lever doesn?t snap into a closed/firing position without holding it there. Her grandfather died just shy of 102 years old and didn?t take care of guns very well. The gun looked as though it hadn?t been cleaned in 75 years. So I showed it some love and lube without stripping the patina. The bore is dark, rifling is visible it has a broken firing pin ...looks to have been used a lot with the broken pin. S/N 153xxx puts its date of manufacture in 1883, it was pretty easy to dig up the dirt on this one compared to the Colt, since Winchester does list information on serial numbershttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6a569b0ff2.jpg
