I am coordinating some 8 hour Hazwoper refresher training for our facility in New Jersey. Due a contractual change, the trainer is new to the facility and has not provided our previous 40 hour or 8 hour sessions.
The OSHA guidelines seem to pretty vague on required content. Has anybody seen a comprehensive listing?
How did you balance meeting the "check the box" requirements while making the training customized to your location and hazards?

From what I know there is not a list of required topics/content. All of my employers have customized it to our needs. Since I have worked in delineation and remediation oversight, typically the topics covered were respiratory protection, levels of PPE, monitoring equipment, sampling, remediation zones, decontamination, waste packaging and transport, hazard communication, and multi-employer work sites. Once all that was covered we would talk about specific projects and issues.
There are several online courses that are actually pretty good.
Talk to your facilities guys who are renewing. None of us will know your locations needs.
Or just let the trainer check the box. Supply coffee so everyone stays awake ish.
I could be mistaken but I believe my company has a generic hazwoper training that is just more of a general overview and then each location has a site specific training that is more comprehensive and is typically given by local management and safety or environmental personnel.
I teach HAZWOPER (Awareness, Ops, Tech, IC) for the Rocky Mountain Education Center at Red Rocks. We do a multiple facilities (Suncor, Cordon Pharma, NREL, RTD) around Denver and generic classes at RRCC. We usually customize them for the customer as best we can. We have been teaching at these facilities for years and know the facilities fairly well. If it's a new place we have not been at before we try to hook up with contact person or safety person to learn some Chemicals, PPE and Operations to make sure we work them into the class.
