My grandpa lives in California and rarely has the time to shoot anymore and he offered to hand it down to me. Problem is that I am not 21+ yet and he lives in California. Does anyone know where I can find legal resources for this ?

CADOJ. BUT you're under 21, so no ffl will transfer it and 4473 it to you.
Check to see if this has changed, but between first generation family, father/grandfather, uncle, 1st cousins, etc there is no background check in California.

The only legal way for this to happen, interstate, is if Grandpa leaves it to you in his will.
If Grandpa were to move to Colorado, then he could gift it to you with no FFL check required, because you're direct family. If you moved to California, it might also be possible, but I'm not well versed on CA handgun laws.
CA law says, between family members . They file on line at CADOJ, pay a $10 transfer fee and it's all good.Quote:

Is your father here in Colorado?
It would be cheaper to have the pistol shipped here to an FFL in Colorado to your father (if he is here) and run the 4473 on him after which your father could then legally just give it to you, than it would be to fly there and just happen to come home with a pistol.
None of this is legal advice in any way shape or form..
Though the feds don't seem to be too interested in going after Hunter Biden (or anyone else for that matter) for lying on his 4473, so I don't think they would have any interest in chasing down a firearm gifted between a grandfather and grandson.
Father is in Colorado. It seems like a lot of work but it seems worth it. Thanks all for advice.
