Sounds like this is still a problem with the P320 series pistol. "So I think it is unconscionable, given the number of incidents of this gun defectively discharging without a trigger pull would necessitate that someone order it to be recalled, and only Sig can do that."

I agree wholeheartedly. Seems like Sig Sauer's quality control has really taken a dive over recent years. Even their new .308 CROSS rifle is hot garbage. Actually had the opportunity to physically check one out a couple months ago. Definitely wasn't impressed for the amount of money they cost.

How are these guns going off by themselves? The girl in the article said it was in her purse and when she picked up the purse, the gun fired.

I am not familiar with the gun or the previous recall.

Yeah, my bet is on people doing stupid stuff and trying to blame Sig to get out of trouble.

Probably in a purse while not in a holster, full of stuff that can get inside the trigger guard.

I thought it was probably BS at first as well, but this has happened a lot, with that specific gun.

Sig actually settled one of the recent class-action suits a while ago, and in a public statement, said: "at certain angles and conditions, a potential discharge of the firearm may result when dropped."

I own zero Sig 320 guns, so I don't know how the FCG works, but they DID replace a bunch of pistols and parts for law enforcement agencies issuing them. Seems weird they would acknowledge a problem and send out a bunch of new guns without issuing a recall, so maybe it's limited to a specific range of serial numbers or production runs or something.

But seriously...if the firing pin / striker safety doesn't work when the gun is dropped, you don't have a firing pin safety. Seems like a fundamental part of a modern handgun design.

What could possibly go wrong with a fully energized firing system and no active safety mechanism?

I own 2 of the very first released P320s. I’ve carried one since release and put 10s of thousand of rounds through the other as my USPSA gun. I’ve never once felt concerned about mine.

Personally, I never cared for the 320 and always felt there was the potential for some safety issues inherent in the design.

More or less if you wanted an analogy it would be kind of like carrying an 80 series 1911 chambered and cocked with the thumb safety off and the grip safety pinned.

I?ve always been quirky about the function and design of things though. Part of my OCD I guess.

I carried a P220 on duty for a long time. Great gun but very complicated inside with little springs and such. Always liked the 220/226 style guns.

I don't know why but I've never been attracted to the new generation of polymer Sig guns. When Sig started marketing their higher-priced, made in China accessories it turned me off from their products. Again, I don't know exactly why...I have no first-hand experience with any of them so...just one of those things.
