I'm thinking about a kerosene heater for the garage--this one at Home Depot is indoor rated:

If you have one similar, chime in and tell if you'd recommend it.
Most importantly, is there any place in metro Denver (preferably south) to get bulk kerosene instead of buying it at home depot for $17 per gallon? My google skills are lacking on this one. This thing takes 2 gallons in 10 hours--$35 pretty much makes it a no-go.

The cannon style work well, are loud and tend to be directional until the space is warm.
The upright models don't heat the space as quickly and are silent. You can cook on them and they are nice to stand around like a stove or a fire.
They both stink upon startup.
Regardless of style, make sure to get a CO alarm in the heated space.
I used to fill my 5 gallon can at rental yards.
From my research, a lot of people say the Kerosun (search 'Kerosun' and 'Kero Sun') made in Japan by Toyotomi in the '80s are still one of the better kerosene heaters. I just did a quick search and there are several on CL for $100 or less. If you're buying used, make sure to be picky and find one in good/very good condition. Despite being manufactured/purchased almost 40 years ago, I've seen several over the years that are in like-new condition. There's a battery compartment (the igniter is battery powered) so make sure there's no corrosion on the battery terminals. As of a few years ago, I found parts (wicks, etc.) to be readily available. (Check eBay.)
I've bought kerosene here in COS at Chief Petroleum. Check your area for 'petroleum retailers' or the like.
Now for the important part: My experience with the kerosene heater I had wasn't great. It can throw off a lot of heat for a reasonable price. (Not at $14 a gallon.[facepalm]) That said, for me, there was no getting around the fact you're burning a fair amount of a petroleum product in an enclosed area. The one I had burned clean (at least after it warmed up. Keep it outside for several minutes until it's up to operating temperature and burning efficiently.) but I still tended to get headaches if I was in the garage for a while the the kerosene heater burning. I guess some people like them, but for me, the carbon monoxide risk isn't worth it.

I've got two Mr Heaters (a Buddy and a Big Buddy)--I can use those, but was just thinking of something different. Thanks for the inputs
I have the same one. It works pretty well. The igniter doesn’t always work, but a long lighter does. I’ve put it in the basement when I had a furnace fail at sub-20, and the pipes didn’t freeze. Heck, the whole (small) house was tolerable. I use it in my garage now occasionally. No regrets for what it is.
I had that model in the past as well. It worked ok in the basement, but it took several hours to get my garage to a lukewarm temp. I bought a small 220 electric heater from Northern tool for the garage and it heats much more quickly. Just my experience and 2 cents.
