Planning on flying in soon, don't want to end up harassed over my rifle. Is there an exception for traveling through in their silly law regarding unserialized receivers? I cannot find one.
I would land at DIA and immediately leave the county. On return, I would proceed immediately to the checkin counter.
Departure in this scenario is the main concern.
When I flew our two months ago, they never had me open the case. When I returned, I picked my bag up on the carousel.
When you declare a firearm at DIA, DPD doesn't do anything with it, it's all TSA. As long as it's unloaded and packed properly, i.e. in a locked, hard-sided case- you should be good to go.
I've flown out of DIA with a firearm multiple times and never had to open the case to show the actual firearm.
I guess I'm batting a lower average. They've looked inside mine 2/3 times.
Guess I shouldn't be so worried, It doesn't necessarily look like a homemade gangster gat, it just doesn't have a digit on it
#2 and #3 Nail it.
Even if they do ask for you to open the case, they don't inspect it.
I've flown out of DIA 10-15 times now
Pistol: Sign form and tape it to outside.
Rifle: open case, throw in signed form. Lock back up.
Aside: Many, many years ago I remember wasting about 20 minutes with an agent in Santa Barbara, California who wouldn't check in my gun because I "refused" to take the bolt out of my revolver. I think the only reason it finally happened was because of the growing line behind me and the fact she was the only agent at the counter.

Rinse and repeat. For 20 minutes. Punctuated with me asking for a supervisor, which she was unwilling to do.
