mini rant about grizzly mikes in cos

went to the seratoma gun show at phil long expo today looking for a tactical rifle case and whatever else may have come along. found a great case at grizzly mikes booth, but they did not have the color i wanted left. So about 1 hour before shutdown i offered them 5 bucks less than what they were asking (50 vs 55) they rudely told me they had been selling them for 55 all day and would rather take them home, so I said ok and moved on. funny enough when i got home i looked up their web site and saw that they normaly sell the cases for 49.95. Of course its up to them to price as they wish, just thought it was shitty. on the other hand the guys from leasures treasures were there cutting prices and giving everyone great deals. thumbs up to leasures [Beer] grizzly mike and his mom can go to hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![Rant1]

I have had good experience with them in the past for what it is worth.

I had a similar experience, buying a tumbler. Asked the vendor if they come move on the price and they said no but I could come to the retail store during the week and it would be cheaper.

I went a different direction.

Maybe I'm alone here, but I dont understand people thinking they deserve something for free.[Bang] I understand wanting to "feel" like you got a good deal (whether you did or didnt). I see no issues with asking a vendor or retailer to price match if you've seen the same product somewhere else for less money. But just asking for five dollars off just to feel like you "won" really bothers me. Had you in fact seen that same item cheaper somewhere else? It is not even possible for me to reasonably quantify that something is worth $50 but not $55. Really? Five dollars?[BooHoo] I despise having to negotiate price on anything. I know lots of people do it and maybe some vendors maybe even now expect it, but do you have to badmouth the guy for not wanting to whore out his products? If I see something I want to buy and have not price shopped, I will just buy it if it seems fair. If it seems high I'll pass. Im not gonna flame a guy on the classified board here if he wants $500 and wont take 475 for a particular firearm. Its his item, he can ask what he wishes, I will have to wait and see if someone else puts one up at lower price. I know you said you went and found it on his site for the five dollars less, but maybe he makes up the differece by charging extra shipping, or maybe he feels he needs to get that extra little bit at the gun show to justify the costs of the booth rental. Maybe next time he should price his wares five dollars higher so when you show up to randomly chisel his prices he can still pay for his gas to get home and you can feel good that you saved that five dollars to pay for that pack of Marlboros or whatever other five dollar a day habbit you have that you dont think twice about. Whatever the reason does he deserve a flame post over five bucks???????

$5 less and they wouldn't do it? I would imagine they would still be making a profit on them so might as well move them along. oh well they didn't have your color anyways.

I guess I wasnt there. But it sounded like it was more about price. If they were rude and that was the purpose of the rant, I get it. It seemed more like it was about the money as you did take the time to log on to their website after you got home and after they were so rude and then saw it was five dollars less, and it seemed by your post that is what upset you. My biggest issue is that I just dont think they deserve a flame in a public forum over 5 bucks. Thats all.

Unless there was a stated guaranty that they would have the product you wanted, in the color you wanted, I don't really feel the haggling was justified. That might just be me though, since I tend to agree with Glucas and don't do "haggling."

Just so you know. Mike almost never goes to the shows, that was his wife and son most likely. They live in the springs and work out of their house. If they don't have the color you want, just ask them if they have it at home. If they do you can run by and get it, or have it shipped to your house. Mike doesn't always keep the web page up to date, but he's a good guy just trying to get by.

Bargaining is as old as mankind. A polite offer to buy at a lower price shouldn't be offensive and neither should a polite "no" to the offer. Impoliteness by either party is what bothers me. The fact that they sell on the internet for less than they do in person shows shitty business acumen, but it's a free market, right? It doesn't offend me as much as it amuses me.
