Sounds like a real cluster. That guy hitting the manhole cover in practice was exciting, and there are grumblings amongst the sponsors and crews.
Either way, take a look at the 'Track' going through Vegas, very cool.

Should be a good race tonight/tomorrow morning. Bummer for Carlos sucking up that steel cover and getting a ten place grid penalty, but the lone American driver qualified in P7, his best ever.
Why does the driver who's car ate the access cover get penalized?
Turned out to be a pretty good race. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near it in person but enjoyed (other than the time) on TV.
No. It was for using a new battery, which exceeded the annual allotment. F1 no longer allows spare/qualifying cars. Swapping chassis due to damage is allowed without penalty.
The car was damaged in practice session 1. The car was repaired and used for the remainder of the event weekend.
These street races are a major inconvenience to the locals and tourists alike. Good race, but is it worth the 4 months of inconvenience to all on the Strip? Doubtful. A purpose build road course would be better for all involved, except those that value the show over the race.
I was out there in June and again last month, the construction for the race just messed everything up. Traffic was awful, especially on the Strip. What irked me was the grandstands they put in right on the Strip side of the Bellagio fountains, blocked most of the view of the fountains. Locals I talked to were pissed.
