I use this on leather boots. It?s great. Not sure how waterproof it would make something as the boots are goretex already. I?ve used it on other leather products as well.Quote:

NikWax is more of a waterproofing treatment, not a conditioner per se. The cream is a little better for a conditioner rather than the spray- you didn’t state which you used.
Now that you have waterproofed them you will have a hard time getting a conditioning treatment into them.
I never been a fan of grease or oil type treatments- they are petroleum based which is not the best thing for the leather- it will break down the connective fibers of the leather eventually.
Animal based treatments are better- The Obenaufs suggestion is a solid choice and I always swore by beeswax based SnoSeal for genuine leather boots, you just have to reapply it each fall. Zamberlan boot creme has proved well too.
Lexol is awesome stuff for smooth faced leather.
The modern silicon based treatments like NikWax are great water proofing but like I mentioned not great to condition the leather.
You can try brushing the boots with a soft suede wire brush to open it up a little and hit it with something like the Obenaufs or Lexol. Warm the boots with a blow dryer then try to work the conditioner into them.

I grew up in WI and we used nothing but SnoSeal. Even on Sorel winter boots, that mostly just needed the stitching waterproofed.Quote:
