1 citation written by Colorado Springs Police for fireworks since June 30
All types of fireworks with a fuse and requiring a flame for ignition are unlawful in Colorado Springs.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Despite more than 250 calls regarding illegal fireworks in Colorado Springs in the past few days, it is hard for police officers to crack down on those breaking the law.
A spokesperson for the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) tells 11 News they received 251 calls tied to illegal fireworks since June 30.
“We only wrote one citation,” a spokesperson with CSPD wrote to 11 News. “This is due to a few factors but the primary reason is that the way the ordinance is written our officers have to physically see someone light the firework for them to write a citation. Often, by the time our officers arrive at the call for service people are not setting them off right then so we can’t write a citation. However, we do confiscate and educate.”
All types of fireworks with a fuse and requiring a flame for ignition are unlawful in Colorado Springs, only novelty items like snappers and poppers are allowed.
