My wife's vehicle is due in May and will need an e-test. It currently is NOT throwing a check engine light. If I get it tested now, will the test be accepted in May? Thanks!

90 days before due date, according to my friend AI.
You can do a drive by test-

You have to do it early so if you want to do a drive by check it now.
When you get your renewal it will tell indicate that you're already tested.
Good luck
Sometimes a check engine light comes on due to a change in atmospheric conditions, at least on my old Tundra. Real mechanics here might have a different view. You can disconnect the negative cable from the battery to reset. If my check engine light comes on when I have a test scheduled, it's a quick fix and the test passes easily.
I just dealt with a CEL. You have a month after expiration to get new tags without a penalty. CO sucks as a CEL is automatically a failure. As they said find an on-ramp and do two tests in 6mo not sure how much prior to expiration you need to do them.
Yes after a reset most OBD2 cars need several cycles to verify all the systems.
