Lets put it this way, I know a lot more about guns then I will ever about other manly type tools...
I need to mix 40:1 for this particular chainsaw. Can I use any motor oil for that or does it need to be a certain type?
On the side of the chainsaw there is a symbol for Oil, only, is that the Bar Oil Reservoir?
Any help would be awesome...don't make too many jokes, I am learning
I use 2 stroke motor oil for the fuel mix and bar oil for the chain.

Walmart is of course the cheapest place to get the oils, If you have to have a certain mix get a marked measuring cup and leash it to your gas can and write the ratio on the can.
I have an old beat up stihl that I purchased from some Katrina evacuees several years after so who knows how many trees it's been through. Used it today actually.
Look for a brand of oil that has a built in measure somewhere on the bottle. Many of them do and it makes getting the correct ratio (in your case 40:1) very easy.
For the bar oil resevoir, just fill it. And make sure you check the oil level frequently until you know how much oil your machine uses. Some use it faster than others.
I used to own a landscaping buisiness and since all of the 2 stroke tools seemed to need a different mix, I used a top quality synthetic 2 stroke oil and mixed it to the instructions on the bottle and used it for all of them. I found that it runs cleaner, doesn't foul the plugs and had 0 problems.
Also the bar oiler on some of them has an adjustment valve.
I have always used used engine oil for my bar oil, no problems.
