Questions about full auto .22

I’ve been thinking of getting a .22 full auto and here’s where I’m at.

Speaking with some gun savy people I’m being told to go with the Norrell full auto trigger group with open bolt.

10/22 for several reasons: .22 is cheaper to shoot; can still use in a SHTF; can move the trigger assembly around on different 10/22 platforms so I can have it in a “stock” 10/22 platform or the archangel dressed out platform.

Doing searches at a wide variety of gun sites and I’m finding the trigger group to cost about $9000 for most ads on subguns, gunbroker and sturmgewehr over the past couple of months. Some are complete firearms with extra mag’s and all; almost all the ads I’ve come across have a suppressor and one ad right now is for the trigger group alone for $9K on subguns.com.

Regarding the suppressor I’m going to go the can route so I can move it from one platform to another and even change caliber with the SWR Spectre so the suppressor is not a requirement.

I would like to know if anyone else has a full auto .22 and what platform they have it on, things to watch out for and such.

Does anyone have the full auto American 180? What config’s can you get those in or set them up as?

Is a .22 full auto a waste of time? Should I go with a bigger caliber like a .223 in the Ruger 556?

for 9K you should pony up another 2-3K and get a DIAS or RR lower. i looked into the norrels, and figured if i was going to drop approx 10K i'd go with the RR or DIAS. This way using an AR platform, you also have the versatility of doing a 22, 9mm and 5.45x39 upper, going from a stand alone 10/22 to 4 different calibers with the AR.

For that price, an M16 with a .22 conversion will fill your .22 full auto needs, and still give you a gazillion other caliber options. With patient searching, you can find some M16s under $9k.

I find that Silencertalk.com and major-malfunction.org are great resources.

Both the Macs and Uzis have reliable subcaliber conversions available also. There are others in addition to the M16 platform. It all depends on what you want to spend. Probably the cheapest route currently would be a mac type. $3000 will get you a good running mac with a sibcaliber conversion for $500 to $1000.

The NFA forum over at subguns.com would be a source of info also.

I had assumed that an M-16 was limited to the .223/5.56 and didn’t realize I could keep the full auto function when swapping out uppers. I’ve been paying attention to the ads and as I learn I’m trying to understand what they are actually selling so now it makes sense to see someone selling a RR with a 9mm or .22 upper.

I didn’t like the atmosphere on Silencer Talk and prefer Silencer Research. I paid the annual fee to get the premium reviews and find my suppressors. Now to actually buy them…

I suggest a MAC-10 in either 9mm or .45 and a .22 conversion kit. Total cost around $4 - $5K.

PS... not to contradict the other posts, but I've never seen any full-auto registered M16 or AR15 for under $13K. If there's a $9K one out there, BUY IT!

+1 on the M16, you can find them fairly frequently on sturmgewehr for 9k-10k. Talk to Alan at MG tours as mentioned earlier, he was supposed to be getting a bunch of oly or bushy conversions from a PD if I remember right that he was going to be selling in that price range.
