Have you tried running the game in a compatibility mode for XP? Win7 has a much better management of the compatibility emulation that previous versions of Winblows.

You lost me after "Windows"
I'd strongly advice against ditching Windows 7 in favor of Windows XP. Try running it in the various compatibility modes as outlined above.
Windows XP is nearing End Of Life, when Microsoft will stop releasing security patches for it. Windows7 is a vast improvement over Vista.
Out of curiosity, what game are you trying to play that requires XP?

Fallout 3 GOTY edition. Plays on my vista computer, but just barely. The computer with 7 only needs a video card upgrade, which also means it needs a new power supply, the game loads into the 7 computer, but the expansion packs don't, and it locks up the whole thing when you hit 'play'. If I can get it to play the game well, I simply don't care if it does anything else.
At the moment, my tower is at my friend's house, he is going to upgrade the video card etc. He is my resident computer expert. If I can use a BFH, a shotgun, or explosives I can work on computers, he said that MIGHT not work in this case. [Tooth] He has run into the same loading problem as I have, and thinks switching to vista or xl may be the solution. I know that xl is the only way to access the "mods console", using "`" key, this isn't supported by vista, or 7. I am switching to the pc version of Fallout 3 so I can download new apps that aren't available for my PS3. So, if I can't add the downloads, I don't need the PC version.
Has this computer had any other operation system in it prior to Windows 7 or did the computer come with windows 7? If you had say Windows XP before and was playing the game then upgraded to Windows 7. You'll need to to do a full uninstall and reinstall. But if the computer came with 7 and you can't play the game, it sounds more like your chipset won't support the game, which videocard did you end up buying for the upgrade.
This computer came with 7. I am not sure which card Keith is putting in it, but it now needs a 400 watt power source, so that needs to be upgraded too. Should be an ultimate game pc when it is done. Will only need to be able to go on-line to down load new apps.
