This LT. Col that refused to deploy a while back got hosed Tommy! I think he is from Greeley. Lost a 7K+/month salary, pension etc after serving lilke 18/19 years. What a way to end a career, a lil jail time, no money, no insurance. What a dumb ass!

Yeah I never understood the birther movement. This was a lame attempt at not going overseas. It's one thing to stand up for principal and it's another to be foolish. Standing up against something that might not be real isn't very smart.
old military saying comes to mind:
"you don't have to like it, you just have to do it..."
I wont get into all of the particulars of his retirement etc.
I wont even go into the cause.
I will say that I Applaud him for standing up for what he believes in, Regardless of him being right or wrong in those beliefs.
As a field grade officer, its not like he was facing daily patrols or anything. He was looking at a year on a FOB Pushing papers. Somehow I don't see an officer throwing that away at the end of his career just to get out of a deployment.
If you wont stand for something you believe in, what will you stand for?
I'd agree with you Byte, if the cause was just. This one isn't, His stand was pure stupidity.
Fact: His Mother was a U.S.citizen at the time of his birth. Therefore, Whether or not he was born in Hawaii or Timbuktu. Whether or not his sperm doner was a forgien national,,, He is a U.S. citizen..
And, unfortunatly, Dem's the facts..
What I don't understand, if he was willing to risk it all to make the point, why back down at the last minute?
In the end he made no point at all.
While I don't share the Birthers views and strongly dislike Bama for other reasons, I have to point out that the Birthers are not questioning Bama's US Citizenship, they are questioning his Natural Born US Citizenship required by the Article II of the Constitution. These are different things.
While I think it has been proved a number of times he was born in Hawaii, if he were indeed born in Timbuktu, that would disqualify him as President.
But regarding the OP, I think that guy was crazy to give up everything simply to say he thinks Bama cannot be President. He either didn't want to go or wanted all the national media attention he is now getting. Still not worth losing everything.
Edit: I have to point out that the jury is out on what the "official" definition of "Natural Born US Citizen" is. Some say it means you were a citizen at birth. Others say it means you were born on US soil. The courts have been going back and forth on this since our independence. But my opinion based on what I have read about the founder's thoughts on it is that it means born on US soil.
Doesn't matter.. As long as one parent is a U.S.citizen. He is a U.S. citizen. Thus "qualified" to be prez.. (Note the quotes, I did not imply he was qualfied to be anything but a rabble rouser. [Tooth])
The same as McCain, He was born in Panama. I'm sure had He been elected, the wingnuts would have their own "birthers".
ETA: I did look it up awhile back, This was the impression I was left with after reading it.
I think a very big point is being missed. He signed and took an oath, he knew then that he might have to deploy one day. He didn't have any trouble taking the pay and benefits as long as it was to his liking. Everyone who has deployed has had beliefs and feelings about what they were doing but they did their job. He refused, that was wrong, He should have lost more than he did.
a swing and a miss!
