When you have a tax stamp in your possession, is there some sort of storage requirement for keeping those items at your house?
For example, if I turn a shotgun into an SBS, am I required to keep it inside a safe when I'm not using it? I realize that ownership of an NFA item requires great responsibility, and a safe would be a great idea. I'm just wondering if I am required to buy a $1,000 safe to put a $400 gun into.
I don't know... I have all my NFA stuff in lock down... along with all my non-NFA stuff too... but I have kids, so that's enough reason for a safe right there.
But, I'd buy a cheap safe anyway to be on the safe side. Go to Wal-mart... they have a bunch of low-end safes in stock right now.
AFAIK, no. However, only those you've specified in your trust or LLC can legally have access to the item when you're not around (roommates, little ones, GF/wife, guests, etc.) so a locking storage container is almost a must. A simple stack-on or locking cabinet would work I suppose, you don't have to go spend $1k on a safe.
That's the ultimate plan, just curious if I need to rearrange my plans to purchase stuff.
i send them money and paperwork, they send me tax stamps. have never been asked where or how i store them.
something secure is always the best idea.
