Jurisdiction question...

For you LEOs on here, since you guys are really good at answering these quirky questions...
I was driving today on Evergreen Parkway- not sure who all is familiar with Evergreen but I was near the Bergen Park Park&Ride and passed a Clear Creek County Sheriff's Deputy going south toward Evergreen (CC usually drives through Evergreen because there are multiple routes that crisscross with Jeffco) and my radar/laser detector went off indicating he was running radar whilst driving through on a Jeffco road. So my question is, can a deputy from another county (in this case Clear Creek) actively run radar and enforce traffic in another county's jurisdiction (in this case Jeffco)? I would kind of attribute it to a Wyoming State Trooper setting up and doing traffic in CO.

He can run his radar all he wants. Technically, he could pull you over if he really wanted to, but he'd then have to call in the local boys to take over, at their discretion. Unless it's life-or-limb, most wont pull you over in other jurisdictions.

His radar was probably just "on".

Level 1 Peace Officers have statewide jurisdiction basically for misdemeanor and above crimes. There is case law that would prevent an officer from enforcing traffic offenses outside his jurisdiction unless, like has been said it was some more serious situation.

A deputy sheriff can enforce all laws anywhere in the county. So a JeffCo deputy could conduct traffic enforcement in the city of Arvada, for example. They usually don't make a habit of it, though.

Thanks you guys, I just didn't want to get pulled over by CC County in obvious Jeffco limits for doing something like 10+ the speed limit, it would have seemed a bit out of place. And I'm aware that county mounties can enforce the law in city limits within the county, been there on a ride along with a Jeffco deputy back in the day and had an assault call at Columbine. Normally Lakewood/Littleton (can't remember who's juris. it is) would handle it, but since it's at a Jeffco School they put the boys in green on it.

Columbine is actually in unincorporated Jefferson County. Littleton city limits stop at Sheridan, basically.

Hmm, that I didn't know. Thanks for that. And here I was mistakenly thinking Unincorporated Jeffco was a little further west of there.
