I'm thinking about buying a new .308 bolt or semi. I want it to be a moa out of the box and i want to stay around $500 preferably under. What guns fit the criteria and what would be a good place to buy? Any good deals going anywhere? Best selection to browse?
500 and under ready to shoot out of the box is going to limit you to a bolt rifle . Both Remington and Savage will have rifles that will fit the bill but for that money you will get more rifle with a Savage .
Both manufacturers in that price range will have injection molded crap for stocks . You'd be better of looking for a used rifle for that kind of money , look online and at the local stores but your at the mercy of the market . The precision rifle market interest is huge right now and there are less and less deals to be found .
What is your total budget?
if 5 is it for rifle and all your going to end up disappointed in the performance . A realistic budget for a rifle and scope setup that will perform like you stated is going to be in the 1250 ish area . An accurate gas gun is going to start around 1K for just the rifle .

Not trying to be an ass - but that same question has been asked many a time before and people tend to give the same answer over and over. I'm not harping that you should search the forums before asking questions - or even saying that you shouldn't ask questions (really! ask questions its a great thing!). I'm just saying you need to be reasonable in what you want and do some basic grok'ing before asking for the moon, sun and the stars.
My recommendation: start by going over to gunbroker.com and searching for rifles below the $500 price point. In your search terms include things like Tikka, AccuTrigger, 700PS, PSS, Steyr, Howa, Sako and 5R. That will at least show you how little is really available for that amount of cash.
Again I am not trying to rag on you - just trying to shortcut the conversation a little.
No offense, but you're gonna be hard pressed to find sub-MOA performance for $500. A lot of people end up spending that in something as simple as ammo development. Realistic price for a decent rifle 700-800 bucks. A decent scope is gonna be at least 300-500. Obviously this is for new stuff. You'll save a few hundred buying used, but they are reasons why people sell their old guns.
Sorry.. but I don't even think you can build an AR anymore for $500...

Save/build up on that $500 and get something you can live with... this is a good start though.. do your research and save up....

You will have a hard time finding something for $500 and being happy with what you get for $500. Let you fingers do the shopping and go to the different ranges and matches to see what you will be happy with. Then start saving.

I've got a remington 700sps tactical in .308. I bought it for $900 from a good guy on this forum. It came with a good scope and bi-pod on it. If I were to go buy the scope and bipod new, I'd have spent about $500, which in a sense means I bought the rifle for $400.
just know what things are worth and be patient, (or don't worry about the budget, and get something right away!)
So I was going through my price lists and it looks like there are actually quite a few 308 bolt rifles in that price range.

It is an awful lot of work to list every model but if you want to get together sometime we could go over them and maybe figure out which one will meet your needs for the budget you listed.
I realize this is the Long Range/ Precision Rifles forum but "a moa out of the box" doesn't really explain what you are going to do with it. Are you going to shoot competitions at some point or are you just plinking at the local range at 100 yards? I could go on but a little background might help to set you off in the right direction.
