Sonnen's spinning back fist whiff was a bad mistake
Any mistake Sonnen made was going to be exploited in the worst way possible. Anderson is a different class of fighter altogether and always has been. Cracked ribs prevented him from making this apparent in the first fight, but he corrected that misconception this time around.
Chael was desperate to keep Slilva on his back the whole fight, and he couldn't.
+1. Had it not been for that, He probably would've been in good position for the whole fight. I truly think Silva's weakness is on the ground, out of all his bouts we rarely ever see him on his back. I think Sonnen had a good plan and I would go as far as even saying he would've executed it very well. One mistake and it cost him the entire fight.

You put your back up against the cage and use it to walk up to your feet, more of something you would do when you get take down and locked up though... He was probably thinking sine he had 3 points of contact on the ground he would be safe from kicks and knees to the head, who would of guessed he would take one to the chest! It was an ok fight I'm glad I didn't pay for them overall they were not very good. Just my 2 cents.
A full blown Silva knee to the sternum was not something that Chael had accounted for. Any time you walk up the cage in front of the greatest fighter (and especially striker) of all time you're taking a risk. We've seen plenty of body shots destroy guys in the cage.
With all the trash that Sonnen was talking, I thought we were going to see the first death in the cage. Anyone else hear that the fight was supposed to be in Brazil, but Sonnen had so many death threats that they had to have it here?
I also thought that with all the trash talking, and how big of a deal this fight was, that they wouldn't have called it so early.
I too thought Yves Lavigne was pretty quick to stop it. Watching the replay most of those blows were glancing at best & most were hitting leather & wrists. That being said Sonnen also wasn't moving to better his positing. For the moment leading up to the end of the fight it kind of looked as if Sonnen gave up. Not really what I've come to expect from him. I still would've liked to see the fight go a little longer & reach a more definitive conclusion given the history & the fact that it was a title fight & a rematch. I actually gave round 1 to Sonnen & with his track record of being a tough SOB I would've liked to see the fight go a little longer. On a fight such as this between two experienced fighters you want to err on the side of letting it go too long.
Everything would of had to go perfect for Sonnen to win. Chael knew this and by the 2nd it was evident that he had no cards left to play. I really wanted him to have a good showing but hope and trash talk don't win fights. Silva showed why there's no one out there even close to him right now.
