Picked this up dirt cheap, it is some sort of military container.
I am wondering what it was originally used for, the stenciling is so faded that you can just tell that something was written on it.

Maybe an old sea trunk?
Any serial # or manufacturer plate? What does it say on the right side I can't make it up? Could you post/send me a detailed pic of the locking mechanism? It will give a clue of the era.
It looks like some storage box you can find on the side of a vehicle or a gun carriage.
It is all steel and originally OD, and heavier than ....well it is heavy, it is military but I dont think it was Navy, it wasn't painted gray.
Here are a couple more pictures, there are two of the bolt handles, one on each end and the lock hasp in the center.
Between the surface rust and faded worn paint, I cannot make out the writing on the right end.
