if you need to have a seam I would not attempt it, if it is a straight install you could do it, rent a power stretcher don't try to use a knee kicker,
Look into a good quality carpet square if you want to DIY legato sqaures are very nice, used them in our last house
After you try it once you will pay someone to do it from then on. Knees will hurt for a few days. Especially when the big box stores offer 99 and 125 install.

I laid flooring for 2 years and carpet was the only floor type I hated installing.
If you're meticulous and the room is small enough that it won't require a seam, I would say go for it. If you have to do even 1 seam, I wouldn't bother with it at all. Too much frustration and no matter how hard you try, it won't come out as nice as what a pro would do.
