Need opinions on new roof drip edge/ trim color issues

So I had a new roof installed recently and the contractor's team put the new shingles on and all was great until they completed the job and I noticed they installed new black "drip edge" on my off-white trim. Notified the contractor about this and he apologized for the mistake and inconvenience and said he would send out his painter to correct.

Painter came out on Monday and worked for a few hrs. and then said all was complete. I glanced outside a couple of times and noticed that the paint being applied was a white that did not match my trim but assumed he was putting on primer over the black metal drip edge. After the painter said he was done, I commented on how the "extra white" paint did not match my "off-white" trim. (in my opinion)

Any roofers/painters with experience in this have any comments? I sent these pics. below to my contractor calling out the difference and he said "Those colors aren't a perfect match but they seem very close" and offered $100 discount to call it good. He also mentioned that it would take a lot of work to match a custom paint. I think a color chart held up to my existing trim to find a stock "off-white" would have been expected of a painter.

Am I just being too picky on this?? My HOA form that the contractor filled out specifically called out that any new drip edge must must be painted to match the exact same color of existing house trim and my contract w/ their company said drip edge "color to match".

Thanks for any feedback before I reply back to my contractor. Fortunately I have not fully paid for the job so still have about $3.5K of their money out of the $8.5k.

You paid for a product as described and it's not what you expected. Is it worth the hassle? Color looks close to me, once it's dirty you won't notice? Pocket $100?

I would expect the work to be performed as described.

IMHO if I was looking at the house from like 25ft away... I would not be able to tell the difference, and in all honesty... It looks like white/blue to be like a robins egg. Given the pictures close up... I'd ask for them to re match the paint... You probably have color codes from the original paint... I'd ask that they match that. If it's still a little off even after that I'd just drop it. The contractor should have shown you the paint vs the new paint on scrap to verify a match given the terms...

If you sued him, or he sued you to get paid, you would find that the courts interpret the job as "substantial compliance" and you would only get the reduction in value/ cost to repair as damages.

The picture makes it look close enough that I wouldn't bother. Sounds like the contrast may be more dramatic in person.

I actually agree. You'd only get what it would take to "make you whole" aka same color to the best of a "professionals" ability which probably wont even match... Like I said from 25 ft away or a driveway I wouldn't be able to tell the difference unless I was looking for it.

I would make sure your HOA is ok with the color before accepting anything.

Thanks everyone for the feedback... As long as my local HOA spies don't notice then I guess I will be o.k. Maybe my expectations to match the paint a little closer were too much but may have HOA sign off on it as newracer suggested. thx

I will have to do a full house repaint in a few yrs. at which point it won't matter for the trim.

Ask the HOA to sign off. If they are good on it why not just take the $100? If the HOA claims you're out compliance and demands that you have it painted to the exact color make the contractor do whatever is necessary to bring you back into compliance.
