Another COMPUTER question..

How do I completely uninstall the 60 day Norton trial off of Windows 8. I want to rid a bunch of crap that came preloaded but mostly the Norton so I can install Avast.

format the disk and re-install windows. best way to go if you haven't been using it yet.

Not exactly sure what that means. This a brand new laptop and it is preloaded with the norton trial and I dont have any disks to format.

If I had a windows 8 machine I'd definitely let you know...

Normally in the Control Panel, there is an entry for Add/Remove Programs. It takes a bit for the list to populate after you select it, but somewhere Norton should be listed. Once you have highlighted Norton, you can select Uninstall or Remove. You will probably need to Reboot afterwards to compete the removal of any registry entries.

I do not have Win8, but the process has been pretty standard since WinXP.

What I meant was to treat it as if the hard drive had failed and been replaced, re-install windows. they should provide a way to do it. Then you just don't install all the other crap.

if you don't have a re-install disk or DVD drive, not sure how you'd do it. look through the documentation for rescue disks or making backup disks.

Yep. Got it uninstalled. Norton had a how to on their website for Win8. Imagine that!

Funny thing.. Norton actually has extra programs to remove the bits that typically fail to uninstall.. I had the issue once on a new laptop.. the uninstall failed to uninstall and wouldn't work again.. a little google-fu and WHAM .. some norton remover program off their site.. I had to laugh.

I'm a bit late to the party but the easiest method that I use is a bit of freeware called Revo Uninstaller. You can use it like you would use program uninstaller yet it will also search out other files and registry entries that you can have it delete. Quick, simple & free. HTH
