Just seeing if anyone here is a DBA. I'm trying to become one and don't really know what the next step should be.
What steps have you taken so far?
Basic query stuff. I work with it everyday. I can do some advanced stuff but not much. I'd like to know more advanced query stuff and actual admin stuff. The class I was taking was MySQL based an I use SQL Server. SO outside of query language not much crosses over.
I run and configure db2 in enterprise configurations. High ingest stuff, 30MB/s is the slow stuff. Ar_ART is a dba... Most of the stuff out there for our line of work is schema configuration and related to tablespaces. . I recommend understanding the whole picture to make yourself more marketable. IE, understand the HW, Memory, Disk drives. Always stay up to date on HDD's, RAID arrays and their levels. It's always a changing world and will make your head spin. You gotta be able to do the basics though first. Make sure you can script your queries...
If you want to learn SQL server, it may worth taking a class. You can also pursue MS certification. Likewise for Oracle.
No sir. Colorado born... If you want to get technical, i'm German. Are there any good online resources for training?
Do you have any suggestions where to take a class. I'm all for that but I work 80hrs a week so I dont have time to GO to class. I have been searching all over for online training that isnt $3000. And non of the community colleges have a SQL Server specific class.
