Thanks. I had kind of pictured something like that. I just didn't want the head of the bolt inside of the can. Perhaps I can do something similar but use a carriage bolt instead.

I wouldn't trust anything from MS so Bing is out. I like using GoodSearch.com since my searches benefit my selected charity (NRA-CDF in this case) but you have to realize GoodSearch basically relies on Yahoo.

A cable lock will work fine. Or a chain and padlock. For low security, just a plastic zip strip can keep people from snooping.
have one of us ak builder use our spot welder to spot weld a heavy tab with a hole for the lock on the front of the can then use a cutoff wheel to cut a slot in the ammo can latch tab
