AK Questions
I got an AK for Father's day and had a couple of questions.
What are the pro's & con's pf polymer mags. I have an initial reaction, but would like to hear from those in the know.
There appears to be a bracket of some sort on the left side of the reciever. Is this for mounting optics?

Poly mags no-go
Don't waste you money on Pro-Mag, I had one and it would not work in my Romania AK. and that thing on the side is made to mount optics on I bought on from Tapco but if you mount it on the rifle you can't use the iron sights. A good place to get good metal mags is http://ammunitiontogo.com/ they have a lot of good items. I had one mag that came my Polish AK and it had a metal liner and was really good but i can't find them.

The Bulgarian (circle 10) polymer waffle mags are pretty much the best mags out there... period. They are tough as hell, don't rust and are metal lined. K-Var usually has them in stock, but is out now. Just look around online for them, they are out there. But yeah... don't confuse them with the Pro-Mag waffle mags, they look very similar. I've heard the Pro-Mag versions don't work very well (I never used one tho).

Like the poster above said, they make a Polish polymer mag too, they are a flat, slabside mag and are excellent also, but they are pretty hard to find.
Here's a great scope that will mount right on that rail.

And here's just the mounts.

By the way... what rifle is that? I see it has that third "Y" stamp, which most AKs don't (that's where the auto-sear pin would go on a full-auto version). I had a Russian AK once with the third "Y". Is it Russian?

It is a Romanian Century so I am told. It has a stamped receiver and says
Made by CN ROMARM SA/CUGIR
in ROMANIA
On the other side it says WASR-10
I have no idea what any of it means... but it was a gift and I like it.

That's what I thought, I just didn't remember them having the third "Y" stamp.
Have fun... I love my AKs (they never jam).
