Shrike Help needed

Ok guys...not an AR pro here so I don't really know my way around the system well.

I have a spike's tactical lower and picked up a shrike upper. The front pin is in place but when I lower the back, the rear pin will only go about 3/4 of the way thru. Basically it goes thru the right side of the lower and the shrike but then won't go thru the left side of the lower.

I have pressed hard with my thumb and cannot get it any farther. I have an AR57 upper that fits easily. Any thoughts? I don't want to go at it with a hammer. Kidding...kidding.

First off- DO NOT jack around with the Shrike receiver. The Shrike upper receiver is a lot more expensive than the lower if it gets messed up. I'm assuming the Spikes lower isn't NFA.

I would try it in another lower with the Shrike if you have one. If it fits that lower I would use it.

That said, I would check to see if the back outside corners of the rear lug that the takedown pin goes through are touching. I have read and seen where the Shrike lug is on the long side of the tolerance limit right there. That may be difficult to check because you are dealing with black upper and black or dark lower. Try marking it with chalk or silver pencil. It may not show up as rubbing without the rear pin partially inserted. It takes very little rubbing/touching to make it so the pin won't go all the way through. You also may be able to spot this as the problem by looking at the front pivot pin with the rear takedown pin in as far as it will go (without forcing it). A close look may show that the front pin is pushed forward in the hole indicating that the upper is being jammed forward. The rear pin would also be hitting the front edge of the lower hole. I little filing on the touch points ON THE LOWER will fix it if that is touching. It shouldn't take hardly any metal removal. I read on another forum where someone filed on the lug on a Shrike upper and the lug eventually broke so I would be reluctant to remove metal on that.

You could also try to find a pin that is slightly smaller diameter. I haven't seen a much variation in the diameter of pins that I have measured though.

Be patient. I know it's difficult to be patient when something like that doesn't work but hang in there.

As SAnd said, try another lower. You are just dealing with a slight variation in tolerances. Unless the pin hole in the upper is badly skewed it is not unusual to find rifles where a takedown pin is very tight. You say the pin slides in 3/4 of the way, tap it in and put a couple hundred rounds through it before you think about taking a file to it. If you remove metal now you may very well discover it is quite loose after putting a couple hundred rounds through it. It will settle in and the pin boss holes elongate slightly with use.
