He was boinking the mom while the dad was in the hospital and then told her that the dad had died when the zombies came.
They should have planned a diversion to get out of the emergency trailer but then again that wouldn't have been as dramatic.

You should probably watch the first season if you wanna understand that whole deal fully. Basically when the show started Rick (the husband) got shot and was in a coma when the zombies came. Shane's his best friend/partner and he slept with Rick's wife because they thought Rick was dead (shane may have just told her that, I can't remember). Shane also put the moves on her later in the season and she shot him down. Also Rick doesn't know about this, although a guy told him something at the end of last season and we still don't know what it was. I'm willing to bet he saw Shane's little attempt.
GEDIT: yeah what chevy said...
I was hoping they would pick up the pace of the show a little this year. I really wanna like the show but it is really slow.
I feel the same way about second guessing things. However, if they did everything right... it would probably be a really boring show about people hanging out all day in a fully stocked, nuclear bunker playing cards and trying not to strangle each other out of boredom.
Have you read any of the Day by Day Armageddon books by J.L. Bourne?
He's a Naval officer. Pretty great books so far.
As far as The Walking Dead is concerned, it may be a bit slow at times, but its still 100 times better than the majority of zombie crap that comes out every year, so I'm thankful for it.
