At this point in time, that sort of attitude is being wantonly naive. If the smith in question were on the up & up then he would have at least maintained communication.

OP: It's long past the point where you need to wake up and realize the nice guy approach isn't working and this is now beyond a shadow of a doubt a stolen firearm. You need to shit or get off the pot - report this to law enforcement or resign yourself that the gun is forever gone and drop it.

While i commend your assistance, if he doesn't want to get LE involved at this point in the game. There's really nothing a letter will do to get this deadbeat FFL issue resolved.

i have made digital contact with MJ's daughter, and she seemed surprised that his phone was not working and she stated that she was extremely concerned and would go check on him and get back to me. I also contacted the Lakewood PD, where he lives, and requested a "welfare check", they said they would and would call me back after contact, I also found twitter and instagram accounts that I have left message on. I also talked with Ralph Stovenor, he seemed genuinely surprised that MJ wouldn't be going to his shop, also surprised that I had contacted him. If nothing else, I have stirred the hornet's nest and will wait a few days for results. If nothing, then I'll go to the ATF. Wish me luck

Who was Ralph Stovenor again? I don't remember from the first time through the thread. At least you've gotten people's attention.

You're way to lax about this.

It's been 3-4 months since you have heard from him.

Asking for a welfare check on a person, before you then charge him with theft, isn't going to help your case. Unless you told the PD why you wanted this welfare check, I suspect they aren't going like having you call back in a few days to tell them that this dude actually stole your gun and hasn't been obeying the laws or talking to you.

There is a time and place for being understanding and nice. That ended MONTHS ago.

Call the ATF and get this taken care of.

Ralph, I believe, was an instructor at Colorado School of Trades, and MJ was one of his students.
