There are a few differences between the Gen M2 and the Gen M3. Besides the included dust cover with the M3 there's additional aggressive ribs on the front and back edges and stippling on the sides at the base. Also the base plate slides off to the rear instead of the front and the design offers a better seal from dirt.
The mfg. date stamp arrow on these points to just before 6-13. Magpul has done pretty well to get these out before the July 1st deadline.
